Announcing Usergrid is now part of Apigee

We’re very excited to announce that Usergrid is now part of Apigee.

You can read about it on the Apigee blog.

Usergrid Nightly Builds on CloudBees

We just wanted to point out that we use Cloudbees as our continuous integration service. This means that once a day, assuming changes have been pushed to GitHub, Cloudbees will download the latest source code and run the full set of unit tests and make the latest versions available for download. This greatly improves the QA process and ensures that the code can be built on machines other than our own.

At any time, you can get the latest successful builds at:

https://usergrid.ci.cloudbees.com/job/Usergrid%20Nightly/lastSuccessfulBuild/

Here are links to the latest successful build of the standalone server and desktop launcher:

Usergrid Source Code Release on GitHub

We’re announcing today the first source code release of Usergrid, a comprehensive platform stack for mobile and rich client applications. The entire codebase is now available on GitHub at https://github.com/usergrid/stack. Usergrid is built in Java and runs on top of Cassandra. Although we built Usergrid as a highly scalable cloud service, we’ve also taken a few steps to make it easy to run “small”, including providing a double-clickable desktop app that lets you run your own personal installation on your desktop, so you can get started right away.

Here are the links to get started with Usergrid:

Our goal is to make Usergrid available as both a cloud service and as an open source stack you can host yourself. This is very similar to the WordPress model that has proven so successful. We’re not ready to launch the cloud service yet, but we’re finally at a point where we can share the code and, by making it possible for you to run your own installation, we can let you get started right away. An Amazon AMI will soon be available too and we’ll post here when it’s ready.

We hope you’ll find this fun and useful. Please join the mailing list and let us know your experiences with it. If you want to be made aware of when you can participate in the beta of the cloud service, go to http://www.usergrid.com and fill in the sign-up form on the right hand side of the page and we’ll let you know when you can join.

New Usergrid video on YouTube

We’ve uploaded a short video showing how to create data objects in Usergrid and perform basic queries.

We’ll be adding more short clips soon showing various capabilities of the system.  Stay tuned.

Documentation posted on GitHub

Just a quick update on our latest progress.  We’re slowly rolling out the pieces of the documentation.  You can see the latest drafts at: http://usergrid.github.com/docs/build/html/index.html  There’s still a lot missing, but there’s enough to get started.  The documentation itself is a GitHub project.  You can find it here: https://github.com/usergrid/docs

Coming Soon…

Welcome to the Usergrid blog.  We’ll be posting information here soon about the public release for Usergrid, the open source platform stack for mobile and client-side applications.

Stay tuned!
